The School has established a scientific and technological innovation development strategy that "focuses on fundamental research, technological innovation, and applied advancement". Through vigorously promoting interdisciplinary integration and strengthening the recruitment and cultivation of research talents, the School has significantly enhanced its innovation capacity and academic influence. National-level major research projects, research funding, and high-impact publications have maintained rapid growth. The discipline of Environment/Ecology has entered the top 1‰ of ESI global rankings, while Agricultural Sciences and Plant Sciences rank in the top 1%. From 2020 to 2024, the School secured a total research funding of RMB 571 million. During this period, it led 4 National Key R&D Programs during the 13th and 14th Five-Year Plan periods, 5 Intergovernmental International Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Projects funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology, 1 Young Scientist Project under the 14th Five-Year National Key R&D Program, 6 Major Research Plans and Key Projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), 1 NSFC Excellent Young Scientist Program, 1 project funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and 3 projects under SJTU's "2030 Plan." The School published 1,257 SCI-indexed papers and was granted 337 national invention patents, along with 44 utility model patents, design patents, and foreign patents. A total of 40 new fruit tree varieties, vegetable varieties, and livestock and poultry breeds were approved and registered. The School has also received 1 First Prize and 1 Second Prize of the Ministry of Education Science and Technology Progress Award, as well as 1 First Prize and 1 Second Prize of the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award.
